More Time Fishin’ (commentary)

More time fishin' was a song that my dad
Had had that idea for a couple years and
Kinda wrote a few different variations of that and this was actually
On the same weekend that I wrote "To The Guys That Date My Girls"
It kinda seems like on records in the past, like when
You write one that you kinda feel like solidifies
The record, you kinda write another one back to back
Like especially when you're in the zone like that

So "More Time Fishin'" is really not even about fishing at all
It's more like I don't wanna wake up one day and
Realize that I just grinded my whole life away
And look back and be like, "But I
Missed every present moment," you know?
I don't wanna turn fifty and look back and see
The things that Lauren and I have accumulated
And look back at it and go, "Yeah, but I traded that success
For quality time with my kids or quality time with my family"
And so I love to fish and my girls love to fish with me and

I hope I just look back one day and realize that
I did cherish every single moment that I got to
Spend with my kids and with my wife intentionally
Even if it meant saying no to something career-wise

'Cause I think when you get towards the end of your life
Those are the things that you'll look back on as important
